1. I was reading some old poems
I wrote many years ago
D
E
G A
And I liked them; they were really very fine.
A C#m D E
Those old poems bore my name, and the idiom’s the
same,
D E G
A
I was far from them by more than a lapse of time
D E G A
That young poet was a guy I might like to meet
sometime
D E
he was not a person I would
claim to be
A C#m D E
In the journey from the past there’s so much that
doesn’t last
D E G Gadd9
A
It was strange to look upon another me.
A C#m D E
2. I refiled
those ancient rhymes and came back to recent times
D E G A
Now I’m thinking of the person I’ve just been
A C#m D E
Out of all the selves I’ve done, he has been my
favorite one
D E G A
Now he’s one that I can never be again.
D E G
A
Cause it takes a lot of help to make up a single self
D E
and it’s different to be held
than to be free.
A C#m D E
And you know damn well it’s true, I’ll never find
another you
D E G Gadd9
A
So I guess I’ll have to find another me.
